As producer members of the CNB coop we are looking to share with you what is going on back on the ranches as the seasons progress. We are on the eve of the next generation of calves to be born on most of the ranches (the 128th generation on my family's ranch) and so this is a natural place to start our conversation. We believe a dialog between producer/consumer and rural/urban creates a critical link not only in food culture but also society's debates at large. It brings an understanding to consumers of what it really takes to deliver high quality food to a neighborhood market but also provides feedback to producers on what is desired as you shop for your family's next meal.
The CNB philosophy is simply Healthy Animals, Healthy Land, and Healthy People. It is a stool that only stands if all three legs are strong. Through this blog we are looking forward to giving you an idea of what the progressive ranchers of CNB are doing on the ground to fulfill these three objectives and therefore creating a benchmark for thriving working landscapes.
There will be a cadre of folks that submit posts on a regular basis. Sometimes it may be short and sweet as we submit a picture of a newborn calf learning to suckle and the joy it brings us. Others times, as we sit watching a sunset from our summer range camp, we will have the time to share how we are using our cows as tools for rangeland restoration. Either way, I hope you join us to share in the deep satisfaction of stewardship of the land and animals through the seasons.
