The first time that I came into contact with Country Natural Beef was in the Summer of 2010 in Portland Oregon. The client that I was contracted to shoot photos for was enthralled with the idea that cowboys would come into a metropolitan area and mix it up with city folks. Who were these hicks from the sticks with wide eyed grins and hats even wider?
The setting was a concrete and glass city plaza, situated between Nordstrom’s and skyscrapers, and CNB provided free samples of Pasture Raised Beef in a variety of presentations. BBQ was the order of the day, and other farmers market venders were invited to participate as well. There was dancing, and roping, and mostly just people enjoying the great food and discussing how their food was raised. I was there to record this clash of culture when buckeroo met banker, and rural visited urban.
What I learned about Country Natural Beef over the next two hours was that these people know some things. First of all they raise some amazing beef!
I wouldn’t by any stretch consider myself a food connoisseur, but I do know when something tastes good. Which brings me to the second thing I learned- they can cook! The menu included BBQ ribs, tri-tip steak, pulled beef sandwiches and all beef hotdogs.
Perhaps the most impressive thing to me about this collection of ranchers that had come to the city was just how at ease they were with people from all walks of life, old and young, wealthy or not, and those leaning left or right. One of the things CNB has going for them is the fact that they produce a product that appeals to most everyone. We all have to eat, and when we can choose the best beef available anywhere, why wouldn’t we? The other thing was that they were comfortable talking about life on the ranch, and the ability to raise their animals and care for thier land. I could see their eyes light up when they talk about the love they have for their families and for their desire to have future generations involved in bringing a quality product to your table.
After nearly four years of working with Country Natural Beef I can honestly say they are some of the most genuine, hard working, and passionate people that you might meet. They are who they say they are. They love and care about their animals that they raise. They are dedicated to being good stewards of the land, and making sure that it is well taken care of for future generations. The last thing is that people are important, and that developing and maintaining relationships is vital to them.
