Raise Well: Our commitment to animal care
Each of Country Natural Beef’s ranching members adheres to the cooperative’s “Raise Well” animal welfare standards, a program that not only assures the well-being of livestock but also ensures consumers receive the very best natural and humanely raised beef in the marketplace today.
The Raise Well standards were written and endorsed by Dr. Temple Grandin, the world’s pre-eminent animal behavorist whose life and efforts to improve animal-handling practices were featured in the HBO film, Temple Grandin.
“The ranching families who form Country Natural Beef are really dedicated to producing beef in a humane, sustainable manner,” Grandin says. “They are hardworking, honest people who are close to the land, and they have enthusiastically implemented a three-tier auditing process. This will help ensure that the cattle are handled and raised according to high standards.”

Dr. Grandin worked with the ranch families of Country Natural Beef to write their animal welfare standards.
She is also involved in developing Country Natural Beef’s audit processes which she describes as three tiered.
First, an independent third party audits all processes.
Second, Country Natural beef audits the humane handling of the processors, truckers and feeders that handle their animals.
Finally, Country Natural Beef self audits their members internally.
The net result of this commitment to animal care is a unique production system that assures our customers that they are getting the best-tasting, most humanely raised product available. |
